Barely a Replacement for a Rain Soaked Paper

As a long time reader of the NYT and long time user of its online access to the content Im a little surprised by how poorly the app functions and delivers content. Simple things like coping 1 word of text prove to be nearly impossible because the app detects the selection as scrolling. For an app presenting highly detailed content as in the NYT this short coming is nearly inexcusable. It shouldnt come as a surprise to the NYT that its content will send many readers to reference apps. Why not provide links to some well recognized reference apps such as google earth and Wikipedia? In addition, presentation of sections. Why not give us the book reviews in a format comparable to the paper version the week it is provided?

Essential

I depend on the Times app for my daily news and opinion. My only complaint is that a few sections never seem to be updated (viz. International Opinion/Arts).

10/5 update not installing

App has been trying to install for hours. Cant even delete it to try to reinstall. Whats going on??

No competition

First class. Easy to get around, highly readable, "all the news thats fit to print."

Lack of iPad Pro 12.9 support is a major disappointment

Were approaching the one year anniversary of the first iPad Pro. Many smaller publications have long updated their apps to support the new resolution, but the New York Times refuses to even give an ETA to their paying subscribers. Unacceptable.

Indispensable start to my day!

I love the convenience of the app. I can scroll through the sections quickly, and not get ink on my fingers! I also enjoy the searchable functionality. I thought that I would miss the printed version, but the app works just fine for me. (I do still have the Sunday edition delivered. I like being able to carry the magazine around in order to work on the puzzle!) Try the app, youll like it!

New York Times app

Excellent way to read this paper. Many links to go into depth or to skip to area of specific interest

Annoying reading experience

Getting the Times delivered to my iPad is great, but it is so frustrating to read long articles there. While scrolling down through the article, the display often decides to jump to the last line of the article and then wants to know whether you want to copy some text. Much simpler to read in Safari (in reader view especially) although they dont then get to show you the ads.

Best News App

Love it. I just wish the crossword puzzle was included in the app.

Best news app ever

The NYT app is my breakfast, lunch and dinner companion! Easy to use, lots of interactive information. The editorial content is the best in the world: timely, spot-on accurate, reliable and thorough.

Excellent access to the best stories

The New York Times iPad app does a great job presenting the stories and making them easy to read and share. Its responsive and enjoyable to use. Doesnt get five stars until they fix the selection of words - when selecting text, the screen scrolls unexpectedly which causes the wrong words to be selected. It makes it tough to get dictionary definitions of the wonderfully large words the writers like to use.

Great app. Excellent reporting

This app is so good, I no longer need or want the print edition. News reporting is efficient. Most of the editorials make me cringe, but that is fair game.

All in all I like it, but...

For the most part I like The NY Times app but there are some parts of it that leave. Me frustrated. For example, if I want to check the definition of a word, normally I would place my finger on the words and would have a box pop up with a selection of choices including define. With this app if you hold you finger down for more than a second the page scrolls down incredibly fast, ending up well down the page. The other issue I have is that every time I click on a special feature article I have to log onto the NY Times site each time, despite already being logged in! Other than those two issues I like the app. Its easy to navigate, fairly easy to customize and easy to email, post on face book, and save articles of interest.

Great app, but ... why?!

Why, why, why cant I zoom in on anything? Is it just me? If not, please enable zoom! Otherwise, top-notch app. Classy as heck.

Irrelevant news

Biased news...not relevant and unprofessional.

Yes, we cannot afford colors

Our app must be black and white and cold, because color ink is so expensive!

Keeping up with the world

The NY Times has always been the way I have kept up with the world. This app is wonderful on my iPad.

Wish the print edition were available

It would be great if the NY Times app made its print edition available, as it is with the Washington Post. Seeing the stories the editors chose to put on the front page helps in navigating through so much info. The quality of the Times in general? It has been disheartening to see it writing standards steadily slip for the last several years, but perhaps that just reflects our society as a whole. While the Times used to be a bulwark against superficial trends, it now seems to reflect and promote them. Still the paper performs an important service which is why I continue to support it.

Love the NYT app!

I get more news using the NYTimes app than any other source, reading many sections morning, noon, and night, especially this election season. Its been wonderfully informative. Thanks New York Times!
