Better and more content than v1.0, but crashes often !!

More content in this v2.0, ok!! Video section and photos are fantastic, ok!! But this app crashes quite every time I use it due to massive memory issues... Please, developpers, care for stability and performances... If NYT wants to charge for reading content, which is ok!!, please consider a good quality dev. —thanks !! Too bad!! We are now at v2.02 and still unstable, crashes quite on every launch…! No improvement on memory management, poor tasks handling: app. freezes while downloading content… So, what are they expecting ?? Users wont pay for subscription if this app is a piece of crap !!!

cream

simply best content + form

Too expensive

Definitely the best all around. I do realize that best has a price. Would like to understand logic behind the pricing though, because right now its crazy. 250$+ a year...

Subscription is too expensive

The subscription rate is much too expensive if you have both an iPhone and an iPad ($35 a month!!!!). Wake up, NYT people!

Not free

This is not a free app since you get annoying messages preventing you from reading contents...

Time and money wasted

I have a print subscription to the International Herald Tribune, the NYT international edition. Got letters and emails telling me I could get the paper on my iPad. Tried. No way unless I bought another subscription! That is not a way to do business.

content versus app

the content is really first class ; there is no question about it as for the app, I only have the IPad version 1 (with little memory on board -not to be confused with storage space) and the app regularly crashes; as a matter of fact almost each time I open a new article. Once I reopen it (30 sec later) it works OK. And yet I have tried to get rid of all useless apps. Judging from forums, Im not the only one facing this irritating problem. Im even considering ending the sub.

Newest upgrade a disaster

After upgrade to this version the app has blocked my access to my paid subscription of the iPad edition. I am trapped in a vicious circle between the app telling e that I am not subscribed and iTunes telling me I am indeed a paying customer. Todays upgrade to the NY Times app is a mess!

Free news

I only read the top news and do not subscribe but I feel that they are very fair in the selection of articles that they provide us with. Great app!

Worst iOS 7 app

Worst iOS 7 app. Previous version was much better. Navigation was easier. Switched back to NYTimes website.

Can do much better

I really love the NYT and really liked the previous IHT app, but I HATE the new app: its layout, fonts and overall look and feel. In comparison, the Financial Times have done a fantastic job with their app. The people from NYT should well be inspired by them.

Ads

Since 1 week, Very perturbating automatic ads, although you pay for a subscription. EL

Premium journalism & successful digital transition.

Astonishing quality journalism, without the fuzz of a printed version in one app and continuous information in an other one. Successful digital transition. Hopefully trendsetting for other editors.

Great app, great content, but....

It would be good to have the possibility to be able to access just the Top Stories for a lesser sum than the full monthly fee. Theres no way I could find the time (even the interest and enthusiasm) to read more than a tiny fraction of whats available. And the 10 articles available free per month is too little - particularly when its so easy to click on a story when all youre trying to do is leaf through the days content.

Why do Letters vanish on App?

Great newspaper app, except for the often disappearing commentators letters!!!! I repetitively have to revert to the NYT websight to read those, even if the article is still up (or saved!) in the App. As even respected NYT journalists can not possible know all there is to know on a subject, readers comments/letters often "complete" the articles.

Crashing annoyingly often

Contents great, the app is good when it works... But in the last couple of days Ive been having trouble to keep it open for more than a few seconds. Is it the app or is it my iPad? In any case, what should I do?

I love it

And, if the subscription was about $5 I would subscribe!

Excelent Information

The app works very well. The information provided by The NYTimes is balanced and refers to a wide range of topics.

PLEASE HORIZONTAL PAGINATION

I canceled last month my NYT subscription because, in my opinion, they destroied the ipad app. The new Nytimes for ipad interface for ios7 had a little improvement but it is still missing a couple of important things. We still do not have horizontal pagination between pages inside a same section. NYT put together in one infinity roll all the sections and all the news. The new pagination must be applied to sections, not just to a single article, and it also NEEDS A HORIZONTAL PAGINATION. I really do not know why it is so difficult to NYT group to understand that reading follows a horizontal logic to many readers. We read, write and use papers and documents following its lines on a horizontal sequence. Why you are trying to obligate us to use only vertical scroolls? We also do not have a typical newspapers look anymore, everything is just indistinctively pale and white. It might be beautiful to somebody, but it is definitely not readable. It takes an eternity to take a look in the hole edition. The last app version was infinitely superior. You should see what Washington Post professionals are doing with their app, the best one avaible on Apple store. Readable, with horizontal pagination as every book and direct connection with the print edition download: Perfect! It is much more pleasurable to use the tablet to read the NYT website. The NYT ipad app must be better. You may choose if you are interested in making a NEWSPAPER for people who really wants to read texts or a graffiti experimentation for people who are interested in other things than journalism.
